User examples: Tomato and nutrient deficiency, apple fruit shape and texture

Time : 16:00 - 16:45
Presenter : Gerhard Buck-Sorlin
Room : CIP III

In this session, first of all, a model of tomato will be presented that was developed to accompany a students' project on the effect of mineral deficiency on growth and development. Young tomato plants were cultivated in hydroponic culture, with one of six mineral deficiencies (N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S). The model incorporates modules for the processes introduced before (light interception, photosynthesis, respiration, allocation, growth, leaf development) and proposes some simple methods to consider and visualize the effect of nutrient deficiency on organ size and colour, and the repercussions on overall plant performance.
